Eighteen years getting change through organisations that make it hard.
Public authorities, regulated enterprises, three layers of stakeholder above the work. The interesting problem was never the technology.
Background
I started somewhere unusual for this trade: journalism, then visual ethnography, co-founding Box 1824 and Tender Research. The job was working out how people actually behave rather than how they say they do — still the first thing I look at when a programme is stuck.
The delivery discipline came later and deliberately: PRINCE2, Scrum, SAFe, portfolio governance, PMO structures at Københavns Kommune, programme leadership at Merkle and Devoteam. The unglamorous half — and the half that decides whether anything survives procurement and a steering group that meets monthly.
Most of my work sits between the strategy deck and the delivery team: the part where something has to get funded, get past governance, and get used. Increasingly that something involves AI. The problem is rarely the technology.
I work through Jacob Langvad Nilsson Consultancy, with two or three organisations at a time. Applied Futures, which I co-founded, does AI enablement and leadership coaching — a separate company.
